What's new in interior design? What's trending? What won't go out of style and be dated in a couple years? These are great questions to ask before investing your hard-earned money in furniture or quality accessories.
What's new? Statement pieces! Think in terms of a large 47 to 54 inch round mirror for a way to add great interest to a wall. Or, hang three large arched mirrors on a wall. Replacing smaller pictures that cover a small portion of a wall with large artwork or mirrors immediately updates an area, like in the living room above. So take down those tiny pieces sprinkled around your walls and make a statement! Add color to your rooms with large colorful artwork and mirrors. Go big or go home!
What's trending? Anything with metal and wood combined will make a room more interesting. Coffee and end tables with different shades of wood and various tones of metal are gorgeous. We're seeing copper, soft golds and raw steel in dining tables, and shelving with raw steel mixed with warm woods. This is a very exciting look! One of my favorite examples of this are these shelves that hang on the wall with turnbuckles. P.S. They're available through Nelson Designs and custom made for you!
What won't go out of style? Pick a color combination that everyone doesn't have and that will give you a look that isn't dated. Pick a color you love and build the other colors around it using accessories such as pillows, throws and artwork. Although we have seen many neutral rooms in the last few years, color is really coming into rooms now. We have the most luxurious dupioni silk throw pillows in vibrant colors of lime, coral, orange and red to add the pop colors that bring a room to life!
Chairs that swivel, as well as rock or recline, are really getting popular, as they should! With all the open floor plans, the swivels make a room work for quiet conversations or watching the big game with groups of friends. No one has to feel left out when they can easily swivel and face the television or turn and visit with you.
Sofas make any room by setting the style. This is my "go to" piece of furniture in any gathering room. Narrow arms trimmed in metal or wood accents across the base give the sofas a very updated look that can go modern or transitional, like the sofa above. The "statement" is in the details!
