The remodel on this wonderful client’s house continues into the family room. The windows allow lots of light, so we continue our black and white color story from the rest of the house. The trim in a rich wood tone accents the black walls. I love black and white with a wood tone in any room, but it really looks great when the windows bring in light from so many directions.
The most important part of this room is comfort. The sofa is deep enough to nap on, but not so deep as to make it hard to get up. The sofa is the starting point and the other pieces are chosen afterwards. Using the white end tables in front of the black wall offers high contrast and interest. By adding the square ottoman/coffee table we introduce a new shape to the room.
All of the furniture is accented with the lovely neutral tones of the rug and look great with the free form style. Once the furniture is placed don’t forget the importance of accessories such as the lamps and the end tables and the round tray on the square coffee table. Sizes and shapes of the lamps, tables and accessories help build the finished room.
This has been such a fun project and the room is perfect for watching TV, visiting with friends or simply napping. I call that a success!
