Market Magic

Going to High Point, North Carolina for market is fun, exhausting and eye-opening. It contains 11.5 million square feet of furniture, rugs, accessories, fabrics and every style and color in the universe. Coming back from market we like to share all the new looks and colors with our clients in our beautiful showroom.

What colors are big? Color in general is big, leading with golds, greens and blues. Our showroom has chairs in green, blue, gold, cream, fuchsia and pink. Sofas are in deep golds, blue, green, brown tones and golden creams. The excitement is in the mixing of colors, patterns and solids to get the exact look you want. Of course, having 6000 fabrics to choose from can seem overwhelming but absolutely not limiting.

What styles are showing up at market? While clean lines are still the big look in both upholstered items and casegoods, a few more curves are showing up as well. The best way to get what you really like is to come into the showroom and sit on different pieces, check the inside depth of the sofas and chairs and see what feels comfortable to you. The really popular styles in chairs are the swivels and the swivel gliders. The movable function is especially good in the open concept homes where you swivel towards a TV, window or kitchen easily. Recliners are popular but in cleaner, not overstuffed looks. The best ones don’t even look like recliners!

Ready to update your living room, or family room? We recommend starting with the largest item that you will actually sit on. The sofa takes center stage as the largest piece and we work from there, adding chairs, tables, rugs, lamps and accessories.

In the bedroom, we start with the bed and pick pieces to coordinate with it. In the dining room the table and chairs lead the movement. It is so much easier to have a cohesive look working with a designer that gently guides you to a perfectly finished look. Mistakes take place when you try to coordinate a look without having the woods and fabrics available together.

Wood tones are still lighter, often white and cream tones, but more blacks and natural to deep woods are showing up. Looking at tables, consoles and credenzas you will see lots of marble or even painted glass for interesting looks. This beautiful painted glass credenza offers art and function.

Bronze and golds are still big, in lighting, handles, accessories and details on chairs. Of course the mixing of metals in a room makes it so interesting. Rooms have more depth when everything doesn’t match, but compliments what else is in the room.
