A room you loved for years can suddenly feel wrong when you walk into it. Does it need a full remodel or just an update? Do you know where to start? At Nelson Designs we have the expertise to help you decide on what you need to make a room feel new without breaking the bank.

In this client’s home the styles had changed and they were ready to update the look. They knew they didn’t want the large armoire any more for the TV and just wanted to simplify things. As always we measured the room to make sure of what would fit and started the planning.

By eliminating that large armoire and replacing it with a much more interesting style for the credenza we opened the room up and added two long mirrors to reflect light and enlarge the room. This really updated the look.

At the other end of the room we were working with a dark leather recliner, oversized chair and also a dark sofa. We wanted to spice up this side of the room with lighter colors and simplify the set up.

What a difference it made adding this luxurious sectional, updated floor lamps and smaller end tables! Eliminating the larger pictures and replacing with interesting wall hangings also simplified the look.

The shelf high in the family room needed to be updated as well and we accomplished that with minimizing the number of items on the shelf. An original painting in a large round shape worked well with the angled ceiling.

The simplicity really made the shelf look great.

The fireplace mantel also needed an update and again we simply chose to eliminate the multiple items and replace with larger better balanced pieces. The oversized oval vase in gold was perfect for the center with well balanced items on each side.

When the furniture, rug and accessories were replaced with updated pieces the room didn’t need a remodel or even a new paint color. It simply needed the right pieces, arranged in the perfect way to bring the room to life.

When you work with professional designers you save money, don’t make mistakes and end up completely loving your room. In this case a remodel wasn’t necessary and even a new paint job wasn’t needed.
